The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, signed in March 1918, was a watershed moment in Russian-German relations. The treaty effectively ended Russia's participation in World War I and ceded vast territories to Germany. The treaty was a major blow to Russia and led to widespread political and social unrest.

In the aftermath of the war, the Treaty of Versailles was signed in June 1919. The treaty imposed harsh penalties on Germany, including reparations payments and territorial losses. The treaty also established the League of Nations, an international organization designed to prevent future wars.

The Treaty of Versailles had a significant impact on Russian-German relations. The treaty created a sense of resentment among Germans, who felt that they had been unfairly punished for the war. This resentment would eventually contribute to the rise of Nazism in Germany.

In the years following the Treaty of Versailles, Russian-German relations remained tense. The two countries were on different sides of the Cold War, and their relationship was often marked by suspicion and distrust.

In recent years, Russian-German relations have improved somewhat. The two countries have signed a number of agreements on economic and political cooperation. However, the relationship remains complex and is still influenced by the legacy of the past.
