Author Biography
Ronald Searle was born in Cambridge, England, in 1920. He began his career as a cartoonist and illustrator in the 1930s, and his work soon gained international recognition. In 1942, Searle was drafted into the British Army and served in the Far East. He was captured by the Japanese in 1942 and held prisoner for three and a half years.
After the war, Searle returned to England and resumed his career as an artist. He became one of the most celebrated cartoonists and illustrators of his generation, and his work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world.
Searle died in 2011 at the age of 91.
